A graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Music (conducting, singing and vocal training), Morten Schuldt-Jensen also holds a Master's degree in musicology from the University of Copenhagen.
He established himself early on through his work with Denmark's leading ensembles and appears regularly as guest conductor with distinguished choirs and orchestras across Germany and Scandinavia, among them the RIAS-Kammerchor (Berlin), MDR Rundfunkchor (Leipzig), NDR-Chor (Hamburg), SWR Vokalensemble (Stuttgart) and the national radio choirs and symphony orchestras of Denmark.
For many years he has worked as a Choir Master with conductors like Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Colin Davis, Sir John Elliot Gardiner, Herbert Blomstedt, Riccardo Chailly, Philippe Herreweghe, René Jacobs and many others, in productions with major orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra.
From 1999 to 2006 he was Chief Director of the Choral Department at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, where in 2001 he founded the internationally acclaimed GewandhausKammerchor, renamed the Immortal Bach Ensemble in 2006. In 2000 he became principal conductor and artistic director of the Leipzig Chamber Orchestra.
His artistic profile is characterised by a wide-ranging and partly forgotten repertoire ranging from the Renaissance through Contemporary and Jazz, an accurate sense of style and an exciting and often surprising interpretation — documented by numerous recordings, several of which are considered reference recordings, and by radio broadcasts.
His teaching career began in 1992 at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and continued at the University of Copenhagen and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" in Leipzig. In 2006 he was appointed full Professor of choral and orchestral conducting at the Staatliche Musikhochschule Freiburg. He conducts regularly at major European venues and international festivals.
